Indian Restaurants in Westchester - the Changes over the Years


Indian Restaurants in US were a rarity some time back. But with the growth in the number of Indians in the US, restaurants have opened up and many are known for their signature dishes. Even a decade ago, most Indian restaurants which were based in the US especially the rare Indian Restaurants in Westchester served creamy and rich cottage cheese dishes with Indian bread called roti. The items were mostly related to Punjabi cuisine and were a hot favorite with some Americans who were interested with the flavors. This was not authentic home cooking. Indian cooks are now looked upon as connoisseurs in their own right and Indian food has become very popular, although the versions of the food are Americanized with different flavors.

Many Indian chefs are well known in the western world. Any foodie would know about Suvir Saran or Vikas Khanna who have brought Indian food to the fore and added his or her own creative bits. Maneet Chauhan who is a  judge and participant in many of the popular Food Network shows is quite popular with the crowd.  Many trendsetting Indian chefs have made their mark in the American culinary landscape with their expertise. Mainstream America is yet to get a hold on Indian cuisine though. Although Indian food has made inroads in popular American culture, Indian food in Westchester getting better and better, there is still scope for widespread acceptance.

Not many folks are cognizant of Indian food even though many Indian Restaurants Westchester have come up serving South Indian food as well as rare Indian cuisine. India is relevant, according to analysts but still the popularity is not on the national scale. Fusion food is a way to do that, say food experts. The American palate is growing bolder in recent years and with the foodie movement which is prevalent in the US, many chefs are just trying to do their bit and boosting their interpretations of ethnic flavors through the use of exceptional modern techniques.  Getting out of the familiar tenets of Indian cuisine, Indian chefs need to know that their food should be ingredient driven to drive popularity. Without getting too much authentic traditional food in the palate, Indian chefs need to experiment for better results and widespread fame .

Ethnic food is very popular in the US and a dish such as Indian upma can be reinvented to the tastes of the Americans easily. Many Indian chefs believe that Indian food has the advantage of having texture as well as flavor in its food which is rare for many cuisines. The principle flavors of salt and spice can be utilized effectively to recreate Indian Subcontinent food than ever before. Different culinary techniques can be applied to Indian food and the variety is owing to the vastness of Indian and its varied cultural tastes. Most Indian chefs are aware of the minute subtleties and have been implementing the same in their preparations.
